Role Overview
I am working with a lovely village mainstream primary school in Quedgeley, Gloucester, and we are looking for a full‑time Teaching Assistant to join the team from September for the full academic year. This role will support a 5‑year‑old boy who is about to start reception following a year of deferment. The support will be primarily 1‑to‑1 but will also involve general school TA duties when the boy is absent or in another respite setting.
Responsibilities
- Provide 1‑to‑1 support for a 5‑year‑old boy with severe autism, limited verbal communication, and challenging physical behaviour.
- Assist with daily routines such as changing nappies and helping the child use pull‑ups.
- Engage the child in enjoyable activities, including music, bubble play, water and sand play, big toy cars, spinning wheels, and visits to the park.
- Support the child during school time using the large playing field, forest school facilities, and a separate SEN base.
- Assist with general classroom and school duties as required.
Qualifications
- Experience supporting children with challenging behaviour and with autism.
- Strong, firm but fair approach and presence.
- Reliability and consistency – the same support throughout the year is vital.
- Physical strength to navigate the school site easily.
- Adaptability and compassion toward the child and their unique needs.
