Job Overview
A welcoming and supportive primary school is looking for a compassionate and experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a child in Reception with complex medical and additional needs. This full-time role involves supporting the child’s personal and medical care requirements, including PEG feeding, and helping the child access learning, build confidence, and feel safe and supported throughout the school day.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with one child in Reception on a 1:1 basis, supporting both learning and medical needs throughout the day
- Support the child in lessons and play-based learning activities
- Carry out PEG feeding safely and confidently
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals
- Provide emotional reassurance and encouragement
- Support communication, engagement, and social development
- Help create a positive and inclusive learning environment
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience with PEG feeding
- Experience supporting children with additional needs, medical needs, or SEND
- Comfortable working within a primary school environment
- Patient, caring and attentive approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one through Axcis
Desirable Experience
- Experience supporting children in EYFS or Reception
- Knowledge of autism, speech and language needs, or complex needs
- Relevant TA, childcare, health care, or SEND qualifications
