Axcis are an education agency that specialise in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This means any work you do will be with a child with some form of SEND, whether that is autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, behaviour that can be challenging, physical disabilities, etc. This particular role is based in an SEN school, more commonly known as a Special Needs School. They are looking for someone who can effectively work closely with their younger students within EYFS and KS1. For this role, you'll likely be working with different students throughout the day.

About the School:

  • The ages there range from 2-19.
  • It is a well-structured school with classroom sizes between 4-10 students with 4-5 Teaching Assistants/Care Workers per class.
  • This setting promotes students' independence and engages them in creative learning.
  • Each student will have specialised, individual learning pathways that focus on promoting communication, independence, self-care, and cognition alongside their personalised academic learning.
  • The school has many therapeutic and sensory environments including sensory rooms, hydrotherapy pool, soft play areas, and dark rooms to help their students thrive.

Most students in this school will have one of the following disabilities:

  • Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) – significant cognitive delays impacting academic learning and everyday functioning.
  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) – complex needs involving severe intellectual disability plus physical and medical support requirements.
  • Additional disabilities such as: Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASD), including associated behaviours and communication needs.
  • Sensory impairments (visual or hearing difficulties).
  • Epilepsy and other medical conditions.
  • Challenging behaviours often linked with communication or sensory needs.

Additional Information:

  • Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm.
  • Roles: Full-time / Part-time opportunities are available.
  • Pay: £13.69+ per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

  • This role is initially temporary with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
  • Training through the National College

What you will need to work in a school:

  • You will be required to have a Child Only or Child and Adult DBS on the update service to work with us. If you don't have one already, you can apply for one through Axcis.
  • If you have lived or worked outside of the UK for 6 months or more in the last 5 years, you will need an overseas police check from that country.
  • Valid Right to Work in the UK: an in-date British passport, Original Birth certificate, Share code or Visa INDBRI.
