Axcis Education is proud to be working with a specialist Alternative Learning Provision in Redcliffe, Bristol, to recruit a full‑time Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant for the full academic year starting in September. This unique setting supports Key Stage 4 pupils who are unable to access mainstream education due to Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs or behavioural challenges. The provision takes a trauma‑informed approach, helping young people rebuild confidence, re‑engage with learning and develop the practical skills they need for life beyond school. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with experience in youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, behaviour support or alternative education who are passionate about making a lasting difference.
About the Role
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
- Build positive, trusting relationships with young people using a trauma‑informed approach
- Support learners both in the classroom and during vocational and workplace placement activities
- Help pupils develop emotional regulation, resilience and positive behaviour strategies
- Encourage engagement with education while preparing students for employment, further education and independent living
- Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and external agencies to provide consistent support
The Ideal Candidate
- Has experience working with young people with SEMH or behavioural needs (education experience is desirable but not essential)
- Has a background in youth work, mentoring, coaching, residential care or alternative provision
- Is calm, resilient and confident in building relationships with vulnerable young people
- Understands or is keen to develop their knowledge of trauma‑informed practice
- Is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers and achieve positive outcomes
