Axcis Education is working in partnership with an Alternative Education Provision in BS10, Bristol to recruit an enthusiastic and resilient Learning & Behaviour Mentor to join their team on a long-term basis, starting after Easter (Term 4). This provision supports a diverse group of learners aged 7–16 who have been removed from mainstream education. Pupils present with Autism, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and other associated conditions, requiring consistent, structured, and compassionate support.

The Role

  • Work with pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis, addressing barriers to learning
  • Plan and deliver targeted interventions to develop emotional regulation, confidence, and self-esteem
  • Adapt your approach to meet pupils' learning, behavioural, and emotional needs
  • Support pupils during periods of crisis, using effective de-escalation strategies
  • Build strong, positive relationships with pupils, parents/carers, and the wider staff team
  • Accurately record pupil sessions to track progress, attendance, engagement, and behaviour
  • Contribute to review meetings, ensuring support packages remain appropriate and effective

The Ideal Candidate

  • Has experience supporting children or young people with Autism and SEMH
  • Is confident using de‐escalation techniques to support pupils in crisis (Team Teach is highly desirable)
  • Can quickly build trusting and positive relationships with pupils
  • Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Is patient, empathetic, resilient, and passionate about supporting vulnerable learners
