Teaching Assistant – SEMH & Behaviour Support

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm

This long-term role is ideal for someone who can remain calm under pressure, build positive relationships, and provide the consistency and understanding that young people with SEMH needs rely on.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges
  • Support the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), ensuring personalised and purposeful interventions
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation using clear boundaries, de-escalation strategies, and consistent encouragement
  • Help create a structured, safe, and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued
  • Build trusting, meaningful relationships that support both academic progress and personal development
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, and external professionals to monitor progress and adapt strategies as needed

About You

  • Experienced in supporting children or young people with SEMH needs and/or challenging behaviour
  • Calm, emotionally resilient, and able to think clearly in challenging situations
  • Confident in communication and able to build rapport quickly
  • Familiar with behaviour management strategies, trauma-informed practice, or restorative approaches
  • Deeply committed to ensuring all students can access learning and achieve their potential
