We are currently recruiting for an experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with visual impairment within a welcoming mainstream primary school in Erdington, Birmingham (B23). This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated TA with experience supporting children with visual impairments (VI) who is passionate about providing personalised support and helping pupils achieve their full potential.
Responsibilities
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil entering Year 6.
- Supporting a child with limited eyesight to access learning and participate fully in school life.
- Assisting with mobility and independence, including supporting a pupil who uses a cane.
- Providing reassurance and support during the school day, including awareness of medical needs such as seizures.
- Working closely with the class teacher and wider school team to adapt learning and ensure the pupil is fully included.
- Helping the pupil build confidence, independence and social skills.
Qualifications
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with visual impairments (VI).
- Confidence working on a 1:1 basis.
- Experience supporting pupils with additional needs.
- A patient, caring and proactive approach.
- The ability to build a positive relationship with the pupil while encouraging independence.

This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to make a real difference by supporting a pupil throughout their final year of primary education. This is a temporary position, unless stated otherwise.
