Axcis are working with a welcoming and well-organised primary school in Havering who are seeking a professional, reliable and personable Administrative Assistant to join their busy school office team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys being at the heart of a school community. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the smooth running of the school day, acting as a first point of contact for parents, visitors, staff and external agencies.

The school is looking for someone who can remain calm under pressure, communicate clearly and manage a varied workload with accuracy and care. This role would suit someone with previous experience in a school office, administration, reception, customer service or a similar front-facing environment. You will need to be organised, flexible and confident using ICT systems to support day-to-day administration.

About the role

  • Support a wide range of school office duties, helping ensure that communication, records, resources and daily routines are managed effectively.
  • Act as a first point of contact for parents, visitors, staff and external agencies.
  • Respond to queries in person, over the phone and by email in a professional manner.
  • Take and record messages accurately using school systems.
  • Produce letters, documents and general correspondence.
  • Support with filing, data entry and retrieving information from school systems.
  • Assist with incoming and outgoing post, deliveries and messages.
  • Support reprographics, photocopying and the preparation of resources.
  • Help with the organisation of school events, assemblies, training or parent communication.
  • Monitor basic supplies and support resource organisation.
  • Assist with First Aid duties once trained, including relevant documentation.
  • Support basic financial administration, including recording income or payments where required.

What we’re looking for

  • Previous experience in a school office, administration or customer service environment.
  • Strong communication skills and a warm, professional manner.
  • Good ICT skills, including confidence with word processing and data entry.
  • Ability to organise workload, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility to respond calmly to the unexpected in a busy school environment.
  • Awareness of confidentiality, safeguarding and professional boundaries.
  • GCSE English and maths, or equivalent, desirable.
  • First Aid qualification, or willingness to complete training.
  • A team-focused attitude and willingness to support staff, pupils and families.

You must be suitably qualified for the position advertised and be prepared to attend a face-to-face interview with Axcis to demonstrate your suitability for this role. Salary / Pay Rate will be dependent on your skills and experience.
