Our Global Wordings Services team has an exciting opportunity to join them as a Wordings Manager. You will be an integral part of the team supporting the underwriting business across all product lines covering a wide variety of complex risks. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your technical drafting skills and advisory services to the underwriters, their clients and brokers in order to provide a service differentiator for AXA XL. This role requires a high standard of strategic leadership, technical, collaborative skills, and a willingness to seek continual process improvement opportunities.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Teamwork - collaborating with colleagues across the Wordings team, the wider Legal Department and beyond in order to deliver on team objectives and service delivery requirements.
  • Cultivating a safe and inclusive value-based culture based on robust leadership and high performance whilst fostering team spirit and a sense of purpose.
  • Governance and Contracts Certainty - the ability to ensure contract certainty and adhere to governance principles in reviewing, managing, and advising on contractual terms in accordance with underwriting, legal, risk, compliance and regulatory standards and requirements.
  • Leadership - responsible for coaching, developing and motivating direct reports and junior members of the team.
  • Analysing - reviewing our existing products, new products and those of our competitors, including analysis and explanation of individual clauses right through to entire product wordings, always with a focus on delivering a commercial solution to any issues raised.
  • Collaboration - working closely with key stakeholders to build new insurance products from scratch and/or refine or expand existing products.
  • Technology - an ability to embrace new technologies, being proficient in using, managing, and seeking out improvement opportunities for contract management systems and tools.
  • Training and Development - developing team colleagues and sharing best practice solutions across the wider business.
  • Oversight of wordings instructions from various lines of business, ensuring that caseloads are appropriately managed within the team and high levels of quality, consistency and service are maintained.
  • Project managing team-specific projects and assisting with company-wide projects.
  • Identifying trends and systemic issues arising from the team's wording reviews.
  • Generating reports and presenting information to upper-level managers and other parties.

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

  • An ability to think creatively and provide underwriters, brokers, and clients with practical wordings solutions.
  • An ability to interrogate and explore complex and abstract concepts relevant to policy coverage.
  • An ability to communicate ideas simply, both in writing and face to face.
  • A comprehensive understanding of insurance law concepts.
  • First class drafting skills in English.
  • A logical and methodical approach.

Experience in the following areas is desirable but not essential:

  • Leading projects and taking responsibility for colleague performance and development.
  • Specialty lines products, high product risk business and delegated authority business.
  • The use of contract analytics technology tools and proficiency in more general systems, and MS applications (Excel and PowerPoint).
