AXA XL is looking for an experienced Underwriter to take a prominent role for writing a North American Property portfolio within the confines of delegated underwriting authorities as part of the London Wholesale property group. This dynamic area requires an agile mindset, balancing a portfolio approach with underwriting fundamentals while maintaining a focus on profitability. The right candidate will draw on a solid background in technical underwriting in Property and Delegated lines of business, be visible and approachable to brokers and coverholders, and possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
What You’ll Be Doing
This is an exciting role for someone who wants to be part of a greener, more sustainable future, merging technical knowledge with adaptive underwriting while still delivering profit.
Core Responsibilities- Underwrite, manage, and service a renewal book and produce new business in accordance with business unit goals.
- Negotiate with producers within the limits of delegated authority and in accordance with established underwriting standards to achieve profit objectives.
- Promote the company’s expertise by participating in industry conferences, events, and by leading client and broker meetings to educate on risk.
- Support the business planning and forecasting process; monitor financial exposure and premium income to ensure they remain within set limits.
- Maintain awareness of all claims advised and provide input on settlement of claims.
- Underwrite within Group rules & guidelines.
- Engage effectively with brokers, ensuring relationship growth and a good flow of new business.
- Accountability for underwriting results of the cost center; contributing to overall strategy and financial planning.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the AXA XL group, cross‑selling where appropriate.
You will be reporting into the Underwriting Manager for LWSP DUA NA.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Technical underwriting background in both North American Property and Delegated authorities.
- Analytical skills – ability to visualize, gather information, articulate, analyze, and solve complex problems.
- Industry knowledge – understanding of the insurance industry and specific product portfolios.
- Ability to respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovation.
- Ability to work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and collegial behaviour.
