The Energy Transition Technical Advisor’s key mission is to execute the risk consulting strategy for energy transition. With investment from AXA Group, this exciting growth plan means that we have an opportunity for an experienced Engineer to join us as an Energy Transition Technical Advisor and work closely with the Risk Consulting Energy Transition Leader and the Risk Consulting Technical Centre to develop AXA XL’s technical standards for emerging technologies.
This will ensure that AXA XL is positioned to offer clients and brokers products and services across key elements of the energy unit, including renewables, new technologies and processes associated with carbon offsetting and global emissions reduction. This role is considered both a technical and market/customer‑facing position supporting the Global Energy Leader to build an influential market and client profile.

In this strategic role, you will monitor global industry practices, provide expert technical guidance, and support our organization’s leadership in energy transition initiatives.
This is a role for a technical expert to leverage their expertise to make a meaningful impact on the energy industry and help clients transition to a sustainable, low‑carbon future.
What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Provide expert technical advice on energy transition initiatives and emerging renewable energy technologies to internal teams and clients.
- Collaborate with the technical centre of excellence to update and develop technical rules, standards, and guidelines aligned with industry best practices and international regulations.
- Monitor technological advancements, industry standards, and regulatory developments related to renewable energy and energy transition to enhance risk assessment and underwriting processes.
- Represent the organization at global industry forums, sharing expertise in energy transition and renewable energy sectors.
- Lead the development of technical standards, guidelines, and risk ratings for multiple Lines of Business (LoBs) involved in energy transition projects.
- Conduct technical reviews and risk assessments, including site evaluations, to support underwriting decisions.
- Contribute to risk consulting training initiatives, sharing insights and best practices around renewable energy and energy transition risks.
- Provide technical support to operational teams, mediating complex issues related to international standards and standards compliance.
- Work closely with engineering teams globally to define best practices and innovative approaches for emerging technologies.
- Engage with brokers, clients, and industry stakeholders to discuss risk mitigation strategies, supporting clients’ decarbonization efforts.
- Support claims teams with industry insights to better understand and manage energy‑related losses.
- Occasionally visit client sites to evaluate risks and report findings to underwriting teams.
You will be reporting to the Energy Transition Risk Consulting Leader.
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field.
- Extensive experience in the energy industry, particularly in renewable energy and energy transition technologies.
- Proven ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
- Robust knowledge of international standards, regulations, and industry best practices related to insurance and energy transition technologies.
- Demonstrated experience in risk consulting, technical advisory, or related senior roles.
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to represent the organization at global forums.
- A proactive, collaborative mindset willing to innovate and drive change across industries.
