The Upstream Energy team are looking for someone to join them as an Assistant Underwriter. The role offers the chance to learn from one of the largest & most technical Upstream underwriting teams in the London market. The ideal candidate will have relevant experience / education, either in the fields of Upstream Energy, Offshore Renewable Wind or from working in an underwriting or broking team.
Upstream Energy forms part of the wider London Energy division, which also includes Energy Liability, Downstream Energy & Power as well as Energy Transition meaning that there is ample opportunity to learn more about the wider Energy insurance segment. The Upstream Energy portfolio is sizeable and consists of our core Exploration & Production clients, Drilling Contractors & Offshore Renewable Wind. Principle coverages include Property Damage, Control of Well, Loss of Production income, Offshore Construction, US Named Windstorm & Third-Party Liabilities.

As an Assistant Underwriter you will be responsible for working with the underwriters to deliver an exceptional service to our clients and a profitable underwriting result to the business.
Your key tasks will include:
- Supporting the underwriting team in risk selection, pricing of risks, document comparisons & reviews
- Working with our operations team to ensure accurate business reporting
- Monitor risk exposure within outlined limits
- Building an effective network with brokers and, in time, clients
- Representing AxaXL at external events, including market presentations
- Develop your skills as an underwriter for the future
What you’ll be doing:
What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Reviewing submissions including policy wordings, loss history and financial reports, supporting underwriters to determine the degree of risk associated for each account.
- Proactively assisting with the servicing of accounts to ensure satisfaction and fulfillment of insurance requirements.
- Effective relationship management internally and externally.
- Working with our ESS team to close and book business in a timely fashion and according to internal standards.
You will report to the Head of Upstream Energy.
