You’ll be responsible for effectively underwriting large commercial risks within your authority, focusing on mid-market cases, while building and nurturing strong broker relationships that align with our branch objectives.

Key responsibilities

  • Underwrite Mid-Market Fleet business profitably, accurately, and consistently, adhering to established underwriting practices and utilising available tools and appetite.
  • Develop and maintain strong trading relationships with brokers through visits and large case liaison to maximise financial results and generate new business opportunities.
  • Establish yourself as a trading expert with a panel of intermediaries, building confidence in the branch’s capabilities through engagement with our Underwriting Technical Centre.
  • Participate in meetings with brokers and end customers to showcase AXA’s strengths and secure new business opportunities.
  • Support loss ratio control by effectively implementing branch underwriting controls and monitoring account performance.
  • Identify poorly performing accounts, investigate retention issues, and collaborate with senior underwriters to increase retention rates.
  • Assist colleagues in building strong trading relationships with intermediaries to ensure a consistent and high-quality service delivery.

Work arrangements

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers.

You'll work at least three days a week (60%) away from home.

Away from home means attending the office in Manchester, visiting clients or attending industry events.

Your skills & experience

  • Robust trading capability with commercial awareness, negotiation skills, and the ability to build excellent broker relationships.
  • Experience of dealing with Fleet underwriting.
  • Confident decision-maker with pragmatic approach and good numerical reasoning skills.
  • Analytical skills with proven experience in account monitoring and action planning.
  • Technical underwriting expertise in a composite insurance environment.
  • Sound knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, risk assessment, and risk management abilities.
  • CII / Dip CII qualifications are desirable.

As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.

This position has been defined as an Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) role under the IDD regime which means that in addition to pre-employment screening checks, the successful candidate will be subject to background screening every 4 years with an annual declaration in interim years.
