The successful candidate will report to Head of Major Event Reserving and will lead analysis, governance, review and reporting on large and catastrophe losses to both internal and external stakeholders.
What you’ll be doing
What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Leading actuarial reserving analysis relating to large loss and catastrophe events at the segment and division level to provide insights in to emerging trends and to assist with reserve recommendations.
- Actuarial support for Major Event Reserve Committee in analysis, communication, collaboration, assessment and reporting of large man-made and catastrophe events.
- Management, review, challenge and consolidation of the large and catastrophe reserve analysis performed by the reserving teams across the division.
- Business Planning: The Actuarial financial reporting team is a key contributor to the development of the AXA XL business plan each year. This role will include significant involvement in the annual business planning exercise including reporting to the AXA XL Division and AXA Group management. This requires supporting and leading Cat, Large and Threat planning working groups and closely working with Pricing, Risk and Natural Peril teams to assess, challenge and communicate outcomes to actuarial leadership.
- Manage the Major Events element of the reserving timelines and workflow across the department including working and collaborating closely with the reserving teams in India, EU, UK and USA.
- Ensuring AXA XL actuarial reporting is compliant with the guidelines set by AXA Group and continuing to enhance data, analysis and reporting suite to meet internal and external requirements.
- Special Projects: Alongside your Corporate Actuarial responsibilities, you will also become involved in special projects intended to contribute to the development of the Actuarial Financial Reporting team as a whole which would involve development of processes or exhibits or focused investigations regarding new methodologies or assumptions potentially impacting the reserving analysis for all lines.
- Contribute to the reporting of analysis and results to the AXA XL Reserve Committees, AXA Group, rating agencies and other internal/external parties.
- Interaction with the 2nd opinion independent review team and external audit teams.
- Team Management: You will be expected to take on day to day management of tasks, including management and oversight of contributions from reserving actuaries and reserving analysts.

What you’ll bring
We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
- Planning & Organisation: An ability to manage multiple conflicting tasks and outputs. Able to plan long term deliverables and ensure tasks are planned and completed accordingly and that any delays or complications are communicated early and resolved appropriately.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration and presentation skills. Must have the ability to communicate even negative or difficult messages in a constructive and effective manner at all levels.
- Business Partnering: Able to demonstrate an in depth knowledge of the actuarial reserving process, as well as translate actuarial output to stakeholders.
- Strategic Thinking and Tactical Implementation: Ability to invent, design and build solutions.
- Actuarial Experience: Expected to have relevant experience within the non-life insurance Industry, with a significant focus on reserving. A qualified actuary with a track record which demonstrates development of leadership capabilities as well as the ability to ensure timely delivery under pressure is absolutely essential.
