As the Expense Controller, you will oversee and manage all expense-related functions within our organisation. Your expertise will be crucial in implementing effective expense control strategies, optimising operational costs, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. You will collaborate closely with all departments to develop budgets, monitor expense performance, and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements. This is a key position in maintaining the financial stability of our Global Healthcare business, supporting sustainable growth, and enabling strategic decision-making. Key responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and continuously enhance expense management strategies and policies aligned with Group Standards and industry best practices.
- Lead the expense budgeting and forecasting processes, monitor performance against budgets, and provide accurate forecasts to support strategic decision-making.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, efficiency improvements, and process automation across all expense categories; oversee the implementation of cost-saving initiatives.
- Deliver timely, accurate, and insightful expense reports to senior management, promoting transparency and informed decision-making.
- Manage and update expense allocation processes to ensure accurate distribution across products and departments.
- Ensure all expense activities comply with internal policies, external regulations, and audit requirements; lead internal and external audits related to expenses.
- Deliver sound expense management, supported by robust, detailed reporting, controls, and governance; achieve annual budgets and cost savings targets; implement a number of efficiency projects; review and update policies annually.
- Lead, develop, and motivate the expenses team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and high performance.
At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You will work at least two days a week (40%) away from home, moving to three days a week (60%) in the future. Away from home means attending the office, visiting clients or attending industry events. This role is based in our Tunbridge Wells office and is a permanent full-time opportunity.
Your skills & experience:
- Extensive experience in expense management, finance, or procurement within the insurance or financial services industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
- Sound knowledge of insurance operations and accounting principles.
- Solid understanding of financial principles, budgeting, cost analysis, and expense control.
- Proven leadership in managing large teams, driving change, and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Familiarity with insurance industry regulations, internal controls, and compliance standards.
- Excellent negotiation skills with a track record of securing favourable contracts and managing vendor relationships.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in financial systems and reporting tools.
