As a Senior BI Developer, you will play a key role in shaping the company’s data strategy, designing scalable data solutions, and providing technical leadership across the BI function. You will be accountable for architecting high-quality reporting and data extraction frameworks, supporting advanced analytics initiatives, and enabling stakeholders to make informed, data-driven decisions.
You will act as a senior subject matter expert, proactively collaborating across the wider BI department and business stakeholders. You will influence technical direction, promote best practices, and mentor junior colleagues. Working within an agile framework, you ensure the BI team delivers efficiently, reliably, and with a continuous improvement mindset.
You will also be at the forefront of how we integrate AI tooling into our analytics workflow, how we deliver embedded analytics experiences to our clients, and how we design a semantic layer that makes Awin’s data consistently trusted and reusable across multiple teams.
Key Tasks & Accountabilities- Leads the design, development, optimisation, and governance of reporting assets (inclusive of data visualisations, Custom Data Extracts, and embedded dashboards) working closely with the BI Manager and cross-functional squads to ensure solutions meet evolving business and customer needs.
- You’ll work with stakeholders across Product, Commercial, and Customer-facing teams to shape and evolve Awin's reporting and analytics offering, ensuring data products deliver clear value to customers and align with commercial priorities.
- Translates complex business requirements into scalable, performant data solutions by designing advanced extraction logic and transformation workflows in Databricks, leveraging the Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Databricks SQL, and notebook-based pipelines to power analytics and data consumption across the business.
- Supports the design and governance of Awin’s semantic layer by defining consistent metrics, hierarchies, and business logic and maintaining clear documentation while enabling self-serve analytics through reusable data assets and stakeholder adoption of BI tools and data interfaces.
- Actively integrates AI and LLM tooling into the BI workflow, including AI-assisted SQL generation, natural language querying, and automated insight detection, while maintaining rigorous standards for output validation and data accuracy.
- Acts as the team’s critical voice on where AI adds genuine value versus where human judgement is required.
- Owns and evolves data standards, ensuring consistency in documentation, data definitions, lineage, and delivery processes across the BI function.
- Collaborate closely with Data Engineers, Data Product Owners, and platform teams to design and deliver scalable, reliable data products, ensuring BI solutions align with the broader data architecture and product strategy.
- Acts as the escalation point for complex data issues, providing expert troubleshooting, performance tuning, and architectural recommendations.
- Delivers and oversees ad-hoc data support across the organisation, providing clarity around data interpretation, source reliability, and analytical best practice.
- Provides mentorship, guidance, and code review support for junior BI Developers and mid-level BI Developers, raising the overall technical bar within the team.
- Champions agile methodologies, ensuring efficient prioritisation, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and iterative development.
- Influences and contributes to BI strategy, identifying opportunities for process improvement, automation, technical innovation, and scalable design patterns.
- Builds strong relationships with stakeholders, advising on data-driven strategies, identifying opportunities for improved performance insight, and ensuring the BI function remains aligned with strategic business goals.
- 6+ years’ experience in Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, Business Analysis, or a similar analytical/technical field.
- Demonstrated experience delivering complex BI or data engineering projects and working with large-scale datasets.
- Expert knowledge of SQL, including query optimisation, stored procedures, and data modelling techniques.
- Strong experience with Python, particularly for data processing, automation, and ETL workflows.
- Strong, hands-on Databricks experience, including Delta Lake architecture, Unity Catalog for data governance, Databricks SQL warehouses, and notebook-based pipeline development.
- Experience with modern BI and visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Luzmo Reporting Services) is highly desirable.
- Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modelling, and database architecture.
- Demonstrable experience designing or contributing to a semantic layer and being able to articulate the business case for one.
- Hands-on experience with an embedded analytics platform (Luzmo, Sigma, etc.) is desirable.
- Practical experience using AI coding and analytics tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, Databricks AI/BI Assistant) within a data or engineering workflow.
- Can demonstrate critical evaluation of AI output, knowing when to trust it, when to correct it, and when not to use it.
- Industry experience in online/media, technology, or fast-paced digital environments is advantageous. Knowledge of affiliate marketing is beneficial; full training is provided.
- Fluent English; additional languages are a plus.
