We are seeking reliable and experienced HIAB Drivers for building merchant and specialist transport operations based in Bury St Edmunds. Conveniently positioned with direct access along the A14, A134, and A143 corridors, this role offers steady daytime hours, local site deliveries, and dependable long-term stability with temp-to-perm pathways for dedicated drivers.
Key Details & Responsibilities
- Hours: 45 – 50 hours per week (Monday to Friday day shifts, standard 06:00/07:00 starts)
- Start Date: Immediate starts available following site registration and HIAB assessment
- Safe Transport: Transporting and offloading construction materials, plant equipment, and timber to commercial building sites and residential locations
- Crane Operations: Safely deploying stabiliser legs and operating lorry loader cranes (hook, brick grab, or remote control) in accordance with ALLMI safety standards
- Vehicle Checks: Conducting daily pre-trip walk-around safety inspections and logging vehicle/crane defects
- Compliance: Adhering strictly to site health and safety procedures, EU Drivers’ Hours, and digital tachograph regulations
- Documentation: Managing site delivery paperwork, signature capture, and electronic Proof of Delivery (POD) confirmations
Requirements
- Licence & Cards: Valid UK HGV Class 1 (Cat C+E) or Class 2 (Cat C) licence, Driver CPC, and Digital Tachograph card
- HIAB Certification: Valid ALLMI, RTITB, or ITSSAR lorry loader certification (remote and/or grab attachments)
- Experience: Minimum 6–12 months commercial HIAB driving and offloading experience preferred
- Clean Record: Maximum 6 penalty points (strictly no DR/DD/IN endorsement codes)
- Site Safety: CSCS card advantageous; strong spatial awareness and commitment to site safety guidelines
