Aquatic Ecologists – All Levels (Assistant to Senior)
Location: Hybrid (Office base in Codford, Warminster with UK-wide fieldwork)

The Opportunity
You will join a passionate team of field ecologists and environmental specialists delivering high-quality ecological monitoring and assessment across diverse freshwater habitats. Working on a wide variety of projects, you’ll play a vital role in collecting and analysing ecological data to inform evidence-based environmental decision-making.
Depending on your level, your role will range from hands-on survey delivery and species identification, through to leading field teams, managing projects, mentoring staff, and contributing to proposals and client communication.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities will vary by experience level but may include:
• Delivering or leading field-based ecological surveys (fish, macroinvertebrates, macrophytes, water quality, river habitat)
• Planning and coordinating survey logistics and site access
• Ensuring high standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance in all fieldwork
• Managing and analysing ecological data, ensuring accuracy and consistency
• Writing technical reports and contributing to environmental assessments
• Supporting or leading bid writing and project proposals
• Mentoring junior team members and supporting training and development
About You
We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals with a passion for freshwater ecology and strong fieldwork capabilities.
Essential:
• A degree in a relevant environmental, ecological or biological discipline
• Ability to swim and confidence working in and around water
• Full UK driving licence
• Strong interest in freshwater ecosystems and aquatic ecology
• Willingness to travel and work away on field-based assignments
Desirable (depending on level):
• Relevant field experience (voluntary or professional)
• Knowledge of aquatic survey methodologies (e.g. macroinvertebrates, electric fishing)
• CSCS card and/or powerboat qualification (or willingness to obtain)
• Membership of CIEEM, IFM, RSB or equivalent
• Data handling, interpretation, and report writing skills
• Project or team leadership experience (for senior levels)
• Experience in tender writing, cost estimation, and commercial delivery (senior level)
