About the apprenticeship:
- BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering
- Day release delivery of degree with rest of time on the job learning (flexible to employer requirements)
- Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
- Enrolment on the ICE Training scheme to attain IEng status
- Inquiry‑led constructive learning and technology‑based assessment

As a Civil Engineering Degree Apprentice, you will learn the basics of construction practice, contract management, structural mechanics, hydraulics, geotechnics, highways, land surveying and CAD before applying that learning to assess existing structures, foundations and soils through lectures and practical projects.
Opportunities when you complete your apprenticeship:
When you have completed your apprenticeship there are a range of roles available where you will be able to undertake design; work towards becoming an expert (technical authority) or manage projects through the engineering lifecycle.

Entry Requirements:
- Applicants must be aged 18 or over, as of 31st August 2026 due to security clearance requirements
- You must be a British National to apply for a role with us.
- Grade C/4 or above in at least five GCSEs including English and Maths
- Plus one of the following:
- Three A Levels grade BBC – Must include Mathematics and a Science in either Chemistry or Physics (UCAS points: 112)
- T‑level (Merit or above) in Construction: Design, Surveying and Planning. (UCAS points: 120)
- BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma DDM in an Engineering subject area, with a minimum of merit in Mathematics and Further Mathematics. (UCAS points: 128)
- BTEC Level 3 National Diploma D*D* in an Engineering subject area, with a minimum of merit in Mathematics and Further Mathematics. (UCAS points: 112)
- Civil Engineering Technician level 3 apprenticeship DD (UCAS points: 96) alongside grade Pass or Distinction at EPA

Annual leave will not be granted from 1st September until 2nd October 2026 due to mandatory inductions you are required to complete as part of your apprenticeship. Any leave approved after this point will depend on the training provider requirements for your apprenticeship and must be agreed in advance.

60 Months plus End Point Assessment of 8 months

Online test: If successful, you will be invited to complete our online assessment stage. These include online testing against numerical, verbal, logical and cognitive reasoning tests. Don’t be intimidated: practice assessments will be available so you will be fully equipped with the knowledge of what to expect.
Virtual assessment: Those successful at testing will be invited to a virtual assessment centre. The Assessment Centre is scheduled for 27th January 2026. Please note that this date may be subject to change, but rest assured, we’ll keep all applicants informed throughout the process.
These roles are governed by Health and Safety at Work Regulations and require all candidates to have an Occupational Health pre‑employment medical held at AWE which follows the initial selection process. All candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to work in designated areas.
