Help keep a busy secondary school site safe, secure and well maintained, using your facilities, site management and building maintenance skills to support pupils, staff and visitors every day.
This role is known internally as a Premises Officer.
SALARY: £26,435 - £27,588 per annum + Benefits
LOCATION: Stanmore, North West London (HA7)
JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent
WORKING HOURS: 40 hours per week (all year round)
As part of a fast-growing multi-academy trust, this is a great opportunity for a Caretaker / Facilities and Maintenance Assistant to take pride in a well-kept, welcoming school site. You will support security, cleaning, repairs and room setups while promoting health and safety compliance.
As a Caretaker / Facilities and Maintenance Assistant you will unlock/lock the site, respond to alarms and incidents, and complete routine checks that keep everyone safe. The Caretaker / Facilities and Maintenance Assistant will also assist with deliveries, contractors and stock, ensuring the premises, grounds and car park are clean, safe and ready for learning.
DUTIES
- Site Security and Access: Unlocking and locking, setting alarms and patrolling the site
- First Response: Acting as the first point of contact for incidents and emergencies
- Premises Maintenance: Carrying out handyperson repairs and general upkeep across buildings and grounds
- Cleaning and Presentation: Supporting ad-hoc cleaning to maintain a safe, welcoming environment
- Event Set-Up: Preparing rooms and spaces for daily activities, open evenings and events
- Health & Safety Checks: Completing fire safety and compliance routines as required
- Deliveries & Stock: Receiving goods, managing supplies and supporting contractor activity on site
- Seasonal Tasks: Snow and ice clearance and safe waste management as needed
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENT
- Good Communication: Clear written and verbal skills to liaise with staff, contractors and visitors
- Qualifications: NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Numeracy and Literacy
- Building Know-How: General knowledge of building maintenance procedures and practical skills
- Health & Safety Awareness: Understanding of H&S and site security issues
- Self-Starter: Ability to work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines, including in emergencies
- Organised: Strong organisational skills to prioritise daily tasks effectively
