JOB OVERVIEW
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Male Victims Support Worker / Male Specialist Abuse Advocate to join a developing specialist service supporting men affected by interpersonal violence and abuse. The service provides a safe, confidential space for men who may face barriers when seeking help.
As a Male Victims Support Worker / Male Specialist Abuse Advocate you will deliver trauma-informed, person-centred support, carrying out risk assessments, safety planning and advocacy within a multi-agency framework. You will work closely with statutory and voluntary partners to improve outcomes for male victims.
The Male Victims Support Worker / Male Specialist Abuse Advocate will also contribute to outreach, awareness-raising and partnership development, helping to ensure male victims are identified, heard and supported across the Black Country.
DUTIES
- Casework Support: Providing tailored emotional and practical support to male victims of abuse
- Risk Assessment: Undertaking evidence-based risk and needs assessments and safety planning
- Advocacy: Representing and supporting clients within multi-agency settings, including MARAC
- Emotional Support: Creating a safe, supportive environment for men who may be reluctant to disclose abuse
- Court Support: Assisting clients through criminal and civil justice processes when required
- Partnership Working: Liaising with statutory and voluntary agencies to promote joined-up support
- Outreach & Awareness: Raising awareness of abuse against men and promoting access to services
- Group Work: Supporting or facilitating group interventions where required
- Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate, confidential case records and reports
- Safeguarding: Responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns involving adults or children
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
- Previous experience supporting vulnerable adults within a needs-led or trauma-informed service
- Experience of managing a caseload and completing risk and needs assessments
- Knowledge of domestic abuse, sexual violence, stalking or other forms of interpersonal abuse
- Proven ability to work within safeguarding frameworks and multi-agency environments
- Strong communication, advocacy and report-writing skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the service area
- Eligibility to work in the UK
DESIRABLE
- IDVA, ISVA or equivalent specialist advocacy training
- Experience supporting clients with complex needs such as mental health or substance misuse
- Experience delivering awareness sessions or training to professionals
