An excellent opportunity for a CSWIP 3.2 Senior Welding Inspector with strong fabrication, welding inspection, NDT and quality control experience within manufacturing, engineering or the energy sector.

As a CSWIP 3.2 Senior Welding Inspector you will carry out welding inspection, NDT review and quality control checks across in-house fabrications and sub-assemblies to demanding industry standards. This role will suit someone with a strong background in fabrication, steel metallurgy, welding procedures and inspection who enjoys improving processes, documentation and compliance within a busy manufacturing environment.

DUTIES

  • Set Quality and Welding Standards: Establish, implement and maintain welding and fabrication quality standards within the department.
  • Inspect Fabrications and Assemblies: Visually and dimensionally inspect tack-ups, weld set-ups and final fabrications for release across the fabrication shop and other areas.
  • Review and Raise NDT Reports: Evaluate, interpret and raise reports from a range of non-destructive testing methods, clearly identifying any non-conformances.
  • Manage Welding Procedures and Qualifications: Create and maintain WPS, weld maps, welder qualifications and welding technique documentation, ensuring staff work within approved ranges.
  • Maintain Traceability and Documentation: Control consumables, record weld data, keep history sheets and quality documents up to date and audit-ready.
  • Support Training and Competence: Assist with training, testing and assessment of welders on materials, procedures and welding equipment.
  • Conduct Internal Audits and Checks: Carry out internal audits of welders, welding procedures and fabrication activities, recommending improvements where required.
  • Promote Safe Working Practices: Ensure all tasks are carried out safely, following health and safety regulations and targeting zero lost time accidents.
  • Lead Final Inspection and Sign Off: Perform final quality inspections, verify technical specification packs and provide sign-off approvals for completed work.
  • Support Site Installations: Attend on-site installation projects to assist with inspection duties when required.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • ESSENTIAL
  • CSWIP 3.2 Qualification: CSWIP 3.2 (Senior Welding Inspector) or equivalent, with strong welding and fabrication inspection experience.
  • Welding and Fabrication Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of fabrication and welding processes, ideally within the energy, engineering or manufacturing sectors.
  • NDT Understanding: Proven experience of evaluating and interpreting NDT reports and working with a range of non-destructive testing methods.
  • Technical Drawing Literacy: Ability to read and interpret detailed technical fabrication drawings and complex specifications and standards.
  • Metallurgy and Standards Knowledge: Good understanding of steel metallurgy, welding defects, welding procedures, welder approvals and relevant ASME and BS standards.
  • Quality and Documentation Skills: Strong focus on product traceability, quality compliance and accurate completion of inspection reports using MS Word and Excel.
  • Health and Safety Focus: Commitment to safe working practices and ensuring welders adhere to health and safety regulations and approved WPS ranges.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Highly motivated, methodical and calm under pressure, with the ability to encourage open discussion on safety and quality issues.
  • DESIRABLE
  • Experience as an RWC or willingness to gain RWC approval via TWI interview.
  • Background in a lead, supervisory or senior inspector role within a fabrication or welding environment.
  • Training on and strong understanding of welding equipment set-up, operation and troubleshooting.
  • Experience of preparing systems and documentation for internal or external quality audits.
