Please note: Holding certification for MOT testing in Class 4, and 7 is essential and an expectation for this role. However, consideration will be given to suitability qualified and experienced candidates who are eligible to undergo MOT training to become a tester.

SALARY: £30,700 - £32,737 per annum + £5,000 market supplement (payable in 12 monthly increments) + Benefits

WORKING HOURS: 37 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 9.00am – 5.00pm and Friday 9.00am – 4.30pm

JOB OVERVIEW

The Vehicle Technician / MOT Tester maintains and repairs cars, minibuses, light vehicles, trailers and engineering plant to manufacturer and DVSA standards.

As the Vehicle Technician / MOT Tester you will support diagnostics, inspections and specialist systems.

Working with colleagues, customers, suppliers and enforcement agencies, the Vehicle Technician / MOT Tester manages workload, records work accurately and contributes to safe, effective fleet services. Occasional roadside or customer-depot attendance may be required.

DUTIES

• Vehicle Maintenance and Repair: Inspect, maintain and repair a varied fleet and associated fitted equipment to manufacturer and DVSA specifications
• MOT Testing: Carry out MOT testing of Class IV, V and VII motor vehicles where authorised
• Diagnostics and Fault Finding: Diagnose and repair CAN bus, electrical, hydraulic and other vehicle faults using diagnostic equipment
• Specialist Systems: Inspect, repair and test air conditioning, Webasto and Eberspacher heating systems, zero and low-emission electric vehicles, and passenger and goods lifts where qualified
• Fabrication and Welding: Complete fabrication and welding repairs as required
• Reports and Records: Produce condition and disposal reports and accurately complete worksheets, maintenance records and Fleet Management System entries
• Workload and Compliance: Organise workload, meet agreed timescales and follow health and safety, equality, safeguarding, data protection and risk management requirements
• Development and Training: Complete statutory and product training and maintain professional development

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

• Previous motor vehicle industry experience and knowledge of vehicle and plant maintenance and repair processes, procedures and specialist equipment
• Experience of alternatively fuelled vehicles and vehicle conversion and commissioning
• Strong diagnostic, analytical and problem-solving skills, including use and interpretation of vehicle diagnostic equipment
• Ability to manage and prioritise workload, follow procedures and maintain accurate records
• Knowledge of MOT preparation requirements, Road Traffic Act, Construction and Use Regulations and operator licence requirements
• Confident IT, communication and interpersonal skills, with workplace health and safety knowledge
• City & Guilds Level 2, NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent), or relevant vocational qualification in engineering or light vehicle maintenance and repair
• DVSA Nominated MOT Tester Classes 4, 5 and 7, or eligibility and willingness to undergo the required training within the first 6 months of starting
• Level 3 qualification in electric vehicle maintenance, or willingness to undergo the required training within the first 6 months of starting
• Category B driving licence
• Right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship
• Ability to pass police NPPV2 security vetting and regular health screening

DESIRABLE

• Understanding of BS EN ISO 9001 Quality Award Scheme and BS EN ISO 14001
• Environmental Management System principles
• HGV maintenance and repair qualification or experience
• D1 driving licence
• C driving licence
• Qualification in inspection of lifting equipment to LOLER regulations

Due to the nature of the work undertaken, the successful candidate will be required to undertake and pass a police security NPPV2 vetting check.
