Tool Fitter / Mechanical Fitter

An excellent opportunity for someone with previous experience maintaining, repairing or fault-finding tools, equipment or mechanical machinery to join a busy workshop team. Candidates with a background as a Mechanical Fitter, Mechanical Engineer or similar hands-on mechanical repair role will also be considered.

SALARY: £35,000 - £38,000 per annum (depending on experience) + Benefits

LOCATION: Bristol, South West England

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 4:30pm

JOB OVERVIEW

This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy workshop environment where your practical repair skills and mechanical knowledge will help keep equipment safe, reliable and ready for hire.

The Tool Fitter / Mechanical Fitter will be responsible for servicing, maintaining and repairing a wide range of small hire equipment, including pipe welding tools and general power tools.

As a Tool Fitter / Mechanical Fitter, you will diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic faults, carry out inspections and ensure repairs are completed to a high standard.

The role would suit a Tool Fitter / Mechanical Fitter with previous experience maintaining and repairing tools, equipment or mechanical machinery. Candidates currently working as a Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Fitter, Plant Fitter or in a similar hands-on mechanical repair role who are interested in moving into tool hire will also be considered.

DUTIES

  • Inspection and Servicing: Carry out the inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair of tools and equipment in the workshop, ensuring all work is completed to a high standard
  • Fault Diagnosis: Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic faults, identifying and rectifying defects efficiently
  • Hire Preparation: Prepare tools and equipment for hire, ensuring machines are safe, compliant and ready for customer use
  • Maintenance Records: Ensure all repairs and servicing are accurately documented using the company’s maintenance systems
  • Safety Checks: Carry out safety inspections and ensure all equipment complies with relevant legislation and company standards
  • Loading Support: Assist drivers with the safe unloading and loading of plant and equipment at the depot
  • Returned Equipment Checks: Inspect all equipment returned from hire, checking for damage, missing items and cleanliness, and report any defects or discrepancies
  • Workshop Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop, adhering to health and safety policies and housekeeping standards
  • Teamwork: Work effectively as part of the workshop team to meet customer demand and deadlines
  • Training and Development: Participate in training and continuous professional development to maintain technical knowledge and skills

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

  • Previous experience maintaining, repairing or fault-finding tools, equipment or mechanical machinery
  • Good mechanical knowledge, with the ability to diagnose and repair faults
  • Ability to carry out inspections, servicing and repairs to a high standard while meeting deadlines
  • Willingness to assist with loading, unloading and inspecting returned hire equipment as part of the workshop operation
  • Flexible approach to work with the ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Positive attitude with a strong work ethic
  • Hard working and physically fit due to the nature of the equipment
