SALARY: £16,956 Actual Annual Salary (£24,796 FTE) + Benefits

LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire (SO30)

JOB TYPE: Part-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 29.5 hours per week, 8.30am to 4.00pm Monday and Thursday and 8.30am to 3.00pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, term time only (39 Weeks)

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Teaching Assistant who is enthusiastic, calm and genuinely interested in supporting students with a variety of additional needs. As a Teaching Assistant you will provide learning support across different curriculum subjects, helping students participate, develop confidence and become more independent learners. The Teaching Assistant will work closely with teaching and support staff, contribute to student progress and create a safe, supportive learning environment. Classroom experience would be an advantage.

DUTIES

  • Classroom and Curriculum Support: Support students across a range of curriculum subjects, clarifying instructions and helping them access equipment, materials and learning activities.
  • Individual and Small Group Support: Deliver directed catch-up sessions and provide focused support to individual students and small groups.
  • Student Learning and Independence: Motivate students, support concentration and organisation, and encourage them to complete work while developing greater independence.
  • Additional Needs Support: Respond to individual learning and physical needs, supporting areas such as language, behaviour, reading, spelling, handwriting and presentation.
  • Progress Monitoring: Maintain student progress records, provide regular feedback and contribute to reviews, assessments and support programmes.
  • Learning Support Planning: Work with teachers and other professionals to develop appropriate programmes of support and understand relevant student targets.
  • Positive Learning Environment: Build supportive relationships, promote self-esteem, encourage inclusion and uphold appropriate standards of behaviour.
  • Safeguarding and Teamwork: Follow safeguarding procedures, maintain confidentiality and work collaboratively within the Learning Support team.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Enthusiastic, calm and genuinely interested in working with students with a variety of additional needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely with teaching and non-teaching staff.
  • Able to communicate well verbally.
  • Good standard of numeracy and literacy.
  • Able to work flexibly and independently.
  • Able to build supportive relationships with students and encourage confidence and independence.
  • Classroom experience would be an advantage.
