JOB OVERVIEW

As the school embark on their next phase of growth they are seeking to appoint a new Teaching Assistant / Student Support Learning Mentorto their team to support them on their journey to excellence.

Working as a Teaching Assistant / Student Support Learning Mentor you will be highly motivated and committed, with excellent communication skills, and the resilience to support a range of students across all subjects to maximise their potential. Adaptability is essential as is the capacity to relate well to both students and teachers. At the heart of what you do will be the passion to enable students with a variety of additional needs to reach their full potential and become well rounded and independent individuals. You will show a โ€˜can-doโ€™ attitude, help to maintain morale, be approachable and have excellent interpersonal skills.

As a Teaching Assistant / Student Support Learning Mentor you will have the desire to make a difference which will be equally valued along with a good sense of humour. Previous experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential. Applicants should have a good standard of numeracy and literacy.

The school will also welcome applications from individuals who are considering entering a career in teaching.

DUTIES

Your duties as a Teaching Assistant / Student Support Learning Mentor include:

  • Work with a range of students across all subject areas, in classroom settings and in small groups
  • Consider the additional SEND and emotional support needs involved to aid the students to learn as effectively as possible, both in group situations and on their own
  • Develop methods of promoting and reinforcing students\โ€™ self-esteem
  • Contribute to annual review meetings
  • Support break / lunch time duties when required
  • Support extra-curricular and afterschool activities on a rota basis
  • CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Empathy with students and sympathetic of their needs whilst pushing for the best possible outcomes and maintaining high expectations
  • Good standard of numeracy and literacy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a good sense of humour
  • Can use ICT effectively to support learning
  • Professionally discreet and able to respect confidentiality on particular issues
  • Highly motivated and committed
  • Adaptable
  • Life experience is valued, along with patience, excellent teamwork, and a sense of humour
