SALARY: £24,796 per annum FTE (£16,014.30 Actual) + Benefits
LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire

WORKING HOURS: 28.5 Hours per Week, 8:30am - 4:00pm one day per week (excluding Fridays) and 8:30am - 3:00pm for four additional days, term time only (38 weeks)
JOB OVERVIEW
As a Teaching Assistant / Learning Mentor you will provide learning support to students with a range of additional needs, helping them build confidence, independence and achieve their full potential across a broad secondary school curriculum. This opportunity would suit aspiring teachers, graduates, career changers and individuals looking to gain valuable experience working with young people in a secondary school environment.
The Teaching Assistant / Learning Mentor will work closely with teachers and the SEND team, supporting student progress through effective communication, mentoring, classroom support, behaviour management and safeguarding. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to students' educational journeys.
DUTIES
- Provide Classroom Support: Support students across a range of subject areas in classroom settings and small group environments
- Support Students with Additional Needs: Use appropriate strategies to support students with cognition and learning, communication and interaction, sensory and physical, and social, emotional and mental health needs
- Promote Student Independence: Encourage confidence, resilience, motivation and independent learning skills
- Work in Partnership with Teachers: Liaise with teaching staff to understand support requirements and provide feedback on student progress
- Assist with Student Reviews: Contribute feedback to review meetings and help gather student views where required
- Support Positive Learning Outcomes: Help students engage with learning and achieve their educational goals
- Undertake Professional Development: Participate in relevant training and continuous learning opportunities
- Assist During Break and Lunchtimes: Support students and staff during designated duties
- Support Extra-Curricular Activities: Assist with after-school activities and enrichment opportunities on a rota basis
- Maintain Safeguarding Standards: Follow safeguarding procedures and contribute to a safe and inclusive learning environment
- Carry out Additional Responsibilities: Undertake other reasonable duties as directed by the SENCo
