Learning Support Assistant / Teaching Assistant Three opportunities are available to support a child with additional needs in a rewarding one-to-one school role. Term time only, 38 weeks JOB OVERVIEW Make a meaningful difference to a child's learning and independence in an inclusive primary school. As the Learning Support Assistant / Teaching Assistant you will provide individual support and help the pupil access learning. The Learning Support Assistant / Teaching Assistant will work with teachers and the SENDCO to implement learning plans, support behaviour, review progress and respond to communication needs. This Learning Support Assistant / Teaching Assistant opportunity offers teamwork, training and the chance to contribute to a child-centred school community with high expectations. DUTIES Your duties as the Learning Support Assistant / Teaching Assistant include: Individual and Group Support: Work with individual pupils or groups, keeping them on task and supporting completion of teacher-set activities Learning Plans and Progress: Implement lesson plans and individual learning, support testing and assessment, and review progress against learning programmes Behaviour and SEND Support: Respond to behaviour and special needs issues with the teacher or provision lead, using appropriate communication and motivation strategies Curriculum and Policy: Apply curriculum policies and relevant school, national and statutory requirements in day-to-day work Partnership Working: Work with teachers, the SENDCO and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality and trust Safeguarding and Wellbeing: Follow safeguarding, child protection, health and safety procedures, keeping children's safety and wellbeing central Supervision and Flexibility: Undertake playtime supervision, attend required training and adapt between individual SEN support and class support as needed CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS ESSENTIAL A child-centred approach with the ability to create structure for children with SEND Experience supporting children with social or communication difficulties on an individual basis Ability to use non-verbal communication strategies and support pupils in a more specialised provision Calm, firm and adaptable approach, with the ability to motivate and engage pupils and respond to emotional needs Strong behaviour management skills and ability to work under pressure to a fixed timetable Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, using initiative and learning from colleagues Excellent oral and written communication skills Understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding procedures DESIRABLE Previous experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs BENEFITS Staff membership rates at a modern leisure centre One fully paid day off per academic year to support personal events Extended two-week October half term Enrolment in one of the UK's largest public sector pension schemes Tax-efficient Cycle-to-Work scheme through salary sacrifice The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
