Job Overview
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for an Examinations Officer / Exams Officer to lead and coordinate all internal and external examinations within a busy secondary school setting. As the Examinations Officer / Exams Officer you will oversee exam administration, SIMS exam entries, invigilation, timetable planning, results processing and compliance with JCQ and awarding body regulations. You will work closely with senior leaders, teaching staff, students, parents and examination boards. Success in this role requires strong organisational and communication skills with previous experience in exam administration, education administration, data management and secondary school examinations.
Duties
- Managing examination administration: Lead all internal and external examination processes ensuring full compliance with JCQ and awarding body regulations
- Planning exam timetables: Coordinate examination schedules, rooming, staffing and invigilation arrangements
- Processing exam entries: Manage exam entries via SIMS ensuring accuracy and adherence to school policies
- Maintaining secure storage: Ensure secure handling, storage and distribution of examination papers and completed scripts
- Supporting examination days: Resolve timetable clashes, oversee access arrangements and maintain examination standards
- Coordinating invigilators: Recruit, train and deploy invigilators to support effective examination delivery
- Managing results processes: Coordinate results days, post-results services, appeals and examination reporting
- Producing statistical reports: Prepare examination analysis and performance data for senior leadership
- Ensuring regulatory compliance: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of examination regulations, procedures and data protection requirements
- Liaising with stakeholders: Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, examination boards and external candidates
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience in examinations administration, exams officer duties or education administration
- Experience using SIMS or similar management information systems
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
- Experience coordinating schedules, timetables and administrative processes
- Good IT skills including Microsoft Office applications and database management
- Ability to work flexibly during examination periods and GCSE results week
- Knowledge of JCQ regulations and examination compliance procedures would be advantageous
- A proactive and professional approach with strong attention to detail
