JOB OVERVIEW
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a SEN Teaching Assistant. Working within a Specialist Resource Provision, you will support students with speech, language and communication needs and/or autism through targeted interventions, classroom support and inclusive learning activities. You will play a key role in helping students develop academically, socially and emotionally. As a SEN Teaching Assistant you will work closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals to deliver tailored support programmes, monitor progress and encourage positive learning outcomes. The SEN Teaching Assistant will join a dedicated team that values creativity, innovation and commitment, providing opportunities to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people every day.
DUTIES
- Supporting Students: Work with students with speech, language and communication needs and/or autism, delivering targeted interventions and evidence-based support strategies.
- Implementing Programmes: Deliver individual and group intervention plans under the guidance of teaching staff and specialist professionals.
- Supporting Therapy Delivery: Assist with the implementation of speech and language programmes as directed by teaching staff and specialist practitioners.
- Monitoring Progress: Record, track and report on student development and achievement.
- Classroom Support: Support students from the Specialist Resource Provision within mainstream classroom settings.
- Promoting Inclusion: Help create a positive, supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages achievement and wellbeing.
- Collaborating with Professionals: Work alongside teachers, therapists and external agencies to support student outcomes.
- Preparing Resources: Assist with the preparation and maintenance of teaching and learning materials and equipment.
- Following Procedures: Adhere to safeguarding, health and safety, behaviour management and organisational policies.
- Professional Development: Participate in relevant training and development opportunities to enhance specialist SEN knowledge and skills.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Essential
- A patient, empathetic and caring approach when supporting children and young people.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents and professionals.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Flexibility and adaptability within a busy educational environment.
Desirable
- Previous experience supporting children with speech, language and communication needs.
- Previous experience supporting children with autism.
- A qualification in Speech and Language Therapy or a related field.
