Job Overview: We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Rail Project Manager to oversee the delivery of rail-sector programmes across the UK network. Working within a fast-paced project delivery environment, the Rail Project Manager will manage planning, budgets, timelines, and stakeholder communication for large-scale fleet branding, refurbishment, and asset enhancement projects. As a Rail Project Manager you will collaborate with internal teams, subcontractors, and rail customers to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to high quality standards. This role requires regular travel across the UK, strong stakeholder management skills, and proven experience coordinating multi-disciplinary teams within rail, engineering, or infrastructure environments.

Duties:

  • Project Planning and Delivery: Manage the full project lifecycle including scope definition, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Stakeholder Management: Act as the main point of contact for rail clients, ensuring clear communication and strong customer relationships.
  • Team Coordination: Oversee multi-disciplinary teams including production, installation, health and safety, and logistics.
  • Site Visits and Surveys: Conduct site inspections, surveys, and operational reviews across rail locations.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure all activities meet rail industry safety standards, risk management procedures, and operational guidelines.
  • Project Reporting: Produce project plans, progress updates, financial tracking reports, and delivery documentation.
  • Supply Chain Management: Coordinate subcontractors, materials, and logistics to maintain project schedules.
  • Risk and Issue Management: Identify risks and delivery challenges, implementing mitigation strategies to maintain project progress.
  • Continuous Improvement: Support improvements to project management processes, operational efficiency, and customer service.

Candidate Requirements:

Essential:

  • Previous experience managing projects within the rail industry or a similar engineering, infrastructure, or transport environment.
  • Strong understanding of rail operational practices, safety procedures, and site compliance requirements.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven experience in stakeholder management, client communication, and relationship building.
  • Commercial awareness with experience controlling budgets, costs, and project financial performance.
  • Proficiency with project management tools and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel across the UK.

Desirable:

  • Rail sector certifications such as PTS, SSSTS, SMSTS, or Sentinel competency.
  • Experience delivering fleet branding, refurbishment, or asset enhancement projects.
  • Formal project management qualification such as PRINCE2 or APM.
