We have a fantastic job opportunity for a Skilled Boat Building Laminator with previous hands-on experience in composite lamination processes, strong understanding of materials, tools and techniques used in boat construction and the ability to read 2D and 3D orthographic drawings. As a Skilled Boat Building Laminator you will manufacture GRP components using wet lay-up / infusion techniques. The Skilled Boat Building Laminator will be responsible for laying up fiberglass and other composite materials in mould tools to create high-quality boat hulls and components that meet the company’s high performance and quality standards.

DUTIES

  • Prepare moulds, hulls, decks, trays and canopies and small moulds prior to applying gel coat
  • Work with a range of chemicals including resins and hardeners
  • Calculate ratios, measuring and mixing products in line with company standards
  • Apply gel coat, fibre glass / carbon mat and resin to moulds using open and closed moulding techniques
  • Install basic structural components as required according to drawings
  • Safely release mould tools
  • Complex secondary bonding / structural bonding techniques
  • Resin infusion - ability to apply dry lay-up, consumables and infusion bag
  • Complete infusion shooting via buckets and Ciject Zero machines
  • Conduct air checks on fibre glass lay-ups and gel coat thickness checks during production
  • Ensure work is completed to company quality standards and within project deadlines
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment, adhering to 5S
  • Follow all health and safety regulations and wear appropriate PPE
  • Support less experienced operatives / apprentices
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure efficient workflow and project completion

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Ability to complete tasks with minimal support
  • Strong knowledge of laminating manufacturing methods, including open and closed moulding production techniques
  • Extensive range of experience of hand and air power tools
  • Ability to read and interpret 2D and 3D orthographic drawings
  • Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work
  • Team player, ready to adapt to any production line and transfer skill set depending on business requirements
