WORKING HOURS: 2-week shift pattern with compressed hours:
- Four ten-hour day shifts, Monday to Thursday 07:00-17:30
- Four ten-hour night shifts, Monday to Wednesday 19:00-05:00, Thursday 17:30-03:30

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a CNC Turner & Operator / Machinist to join a growing precision engineering organisation following recent investment in new plant and machinery. This CNC Turner role offers secure, long-term employment with excellent working conditions and opportunities for ongoing development.
As a CNC Turner & Operator / Machinist you will be responsible for producing high-quality components from a variety of materials, working on one-off and small batch jobs to exacting standards. You will use modern CNC lathes and vertical boring equipment, programming, setting, and operating machines independently. This position would suit someone with a strong attention to detail, a careful approach to quality, and a desire to continue learning within a supportive and professional engineering environment.
Set, Program and Operate:
- ALPHA Colchester XT 1550, 405mm chuck Swing 550mm, 2m between centres
- Fanuc CNC / Manual Guide i control
- Shibaura TUE-150S Vertical boring and Turning Mill machine
- Positional C-axis and driven tools. Swing 2000mm Fanuc CNC control
DUTIES
Your duties as the CNC Turner & Operator / Machinist include:
- Producing Precision Components: Manufacturing parts from billets, fabrications, castings, and forgings
- Machine Setup and Operation: Setting, programming, and operating CNC lathes and vertical boring machines
- CNC Programming: Editing and proving programs using Fanuc CNC and Manual Guide i controls
- Quality Inspection: Measuring components using manual measuring equipment to ensure dimensional accuracy and surface finish
- Drawing Interpretation: Reading and working from engineering drawings and specifications
- One-Off And Small Batch Work: Setting machines for bespoke and low-volume jobs
- Machine Care: Maintaining machines and keeping the work area clean and organised
- Health And Safety Compliance: Working safely and following company procedures at all times
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
- Time-served machine shop apprenticeship
- Previous experience with CNC lathes or vertical borers
- Proven ability to set one-off and bespoke jobs
- Experience with CNC programming
- Strong measurement skills using manual equipment
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- A careful and quality-focused approach to work
DESIRABLE
- Experience working with large-scale components
- Familiarity with vertical boring and turning mills
- Experience working in precision engineering environments
