An excellent opportunity for a calm, flexible and engaging Support Worker to provide refuge-based support, wellbeing activities and positive engagement for women affected by domestic abuse and complex needs.

SALARY: Up to £26,403 per annum

LOCATION: Redcar, North Yorkshire, North East England

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: Up to 37.5 hours per week. Flexible shifts on a rota basis. Shifts will run from 9am to 9pm.

JOB OVERVIEW: The organisation is looking for an experienced Support Worker to provide meaningful activities, practical support and positive engagement for women living in refuge accommodation. Working as the Support Worker, you will help residents improve confidence, self-esteem, wellbeing, resilience and social skills through structured individual and group activities. You will support women affected by domestic abuse and other complex issues, including mental health concerns, substance or alcohol misuse, learning or physical disabilities, homelessness, forced marriage, honour-based abuse and domestic slavery.

DUTIES: Your duties as the Support Worker will include:

  • Provide evening refuge support: Deliver enriching activities for residents, helping them increase their safety and make positive choices for their future.
  • Plan meaningful activities: Develop and implement practical and therapeutic sessions, such as cooking, journaling and confidence-building activities.
  • Support empowerment: Help clients recognise the features and dynamics of domestic abuse and support them to recover and regain control of their lives.
  • Promote wellbeing: Encourage participation in activities that support self-awareness, confidence, resilience, emotional wellbeing and social skills.
  • Work with complex needs: Support women affected by mental ill health, substance or alcohol misuse, disabilities, homelessness and other complex barriers.
  • Manage risk: Assess, manage and review risks to clients, colleagues and yourself, following safeguarding and organisational procedures.
  • Build positive relationships: Engage calmly and professionally with residents, using excellent communication and people skills.
  • Maintain high standards: Work with initiative, stay organised and pay close attention to detail when supporting residents and recording information.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

ESSENTIAL:

  • Previous experience working with clients affected by substance misuse or mental ill health.
  • Flexible, calm and engaging approach.
  • Excellent people skills and communication skills.
  • Well-organised, with the ability to work using initiative.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts on a rota basis.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Commitment to supporting women affected by domestic abuse and complex needs.

DESIRABLE:

  • Experience supporting individuals in a refuge, residential, housing, community or domestic abuse support setting.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, trauma-informed support or risk management.
