Previous experience in training and assessing adult learners would be desirable but is not essential, as the company will provide additional training. However, you will need extensive experience of the light vehicle MOT scheme and previous experience as an MOT Tester.

SALARY: £36,000 to £39,000 per annum (depending on experience) + Benefits

JOB OVERVIEW

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced MOT Tester who enjoys sharing knowledge, supporting others and raising standards across the automotive industry as a MOT Trainer / Assessor. As a MOT Trainer / Assessor, you will use your technical expertise to deliver engaging classroom and practical training to technicians from across the UK, helping learners develop the knowledge, confidence and skills needed to progress. The MOT Trainer / Assessor role would suit someone with strong practical motor vehicle experience, excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for helping people learn. You do not need to be an experienced trainer, as support will be provided to help you develop into the role.

DUTIES

  • Deliver Engaging Training: Provide classroom and practical training for learners working towards recognised automotive and MOT-related qualifications.
  • Support Learner Development: Help technicians build confidence, technical understanding and practical skills throughout their learning journey.
  • Assess Knowledge and Skills: Carry out fair, accurate and supportive assessment activities in line with qualification requirements.
  • Explain Technical Concepts: Communicate complex motor vehicle and MOT topics clearly to learners with different levels of experience.
  • Maintain High Standards: Promote professional standards, quality, safety and best practice across all training and assessment activity.
  • Use Industry Expertise: Share real workshop experience to make learning relevant, practical and engaging.
  • Support Continuous Improvement: Contribute to a positive learning environment and help improve training delivery, resources and learner outcomes.
  • Represent the Organisation Professionally: Maintain a professional, organised and learner-focused approach at all times.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

  • Current Class 4 & 7 MOT Tester with extensive practical experience.
  • Level 3 qualification in Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair, equivalent experience or ATA registration.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Genuine interest in helping others learn, develop and achieve.
  • Professional, organised and motivated, with high personal standards.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Willingness to undertake occasional UK travel when required.

DESIRABLE

  • Level 3 Award in MOT Test Centre Management or Level 3 Technical Specialist in MOT Test Centre Management (Award).
  • Teaching or assessing qualification.
  • Willingness to work towards a teaching or assessing qualification.
