We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Maintenance Operative / Building Maintenance Technician with proven experience of general maintenance and repair work across buildings, facilities, and gardens. As a Maintenance Operative / Building Maintenance Technician you will carry out planned and reactive maintenance tasks including minor electrical repairs, plumbing, painting, decorating, and carpentry. The Maintenance Operative / Building Maintenance Technician will work closely with the Maintenance Manager to ensure all areas of the home meet health and safety standards, providing a safe and comfortable environment for residents and staff. You'll take pride in your work, be proactive and flexible, and enjoy varied duties across the supported housing setting.
DUTIES
- General Maintenance: Carrying out day-to-day maintenance, repair, and upkeep of buildings, systems, and equipment
- Health & Safety Compliance: Ensuring all work meets Health and Safety standards in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act
- Minor Repairs: Completing basic electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs as required
- Painting & Decorating: Painting and decorating resident rooms and communal areas
- Grounds Maintenance: Maintaining gardens, fencing, and pathways to keep the site tidy and safe
- Equipment Management: Ensuring tools and equipment are safely stored and well maintained
- Waste Management: Managing waste and recycling areas in line with environmental standards
- Team Collaboration: Assisting with moves, home openings or closures, and other maintenance tasks as directed
- Fire Safety: Participating in fire drills and supporting inspection preparation
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
- Positive approach to Health & Safety and risk assessments
- Proven experience of maintenance work in a residential or similar setting
- Flexible, practical, and resourceful approach to work
- Willingness to travel between regional sites when required
- Full Driving Licence and own vehicle
DESIRABLE
- Recognised qualification in Electronics or a relevant trade
- Holder of a Health and Safety certificate
- Knowledge of COSHH and risk management principles
- Willingness to undertake further training and development
