Job Overview
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Lab Technician to join a growing technical services team supporting a UKAS accredited calibration laboratory. As a Lab Technician you will assist with test set‑up, calibration activities, technical documentation, instrumentation testing and quality assurance processes involving electrical, pressure, flow and temperature equipment. This role would suit candidates with backgrounds in electrical engineering, testing, instrumentation, laboratory operations or technical services. The Lab Technician will support ISO9001 standards, maintain calibration procedures and ensure precision instruments are tested, documented and returned to customers in excellent working condition.
Duties
- Equipment Calibration: Conduct hands‑on calibration of temperature, pressure, level, flow, electrical equipment and precision instruments in accordance with quality standards.
- Testing and Inspection: Support test set‑up activities and ensure equipment is fully tested and returned in excellent working order.
- Technical Documentation: Log calibration data, compile reports and maintain accurate records using internal systems and software packages.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure calibration equipment remains compliant, safe and certified against UKAS recognised standards.
- Laboratory Procedures: Follow departmental standard operating procedures and approved testing methods.
- Health and Safety: Maintain health and safety standards within the laboratory and support audits where required.
- Customer Support: Record discrepancies and communicate findings when necessary.
- Laboratory Management: Maintain laboratory cleanliness and support inventory control activities.
- Technical Development: Cross‑train in electrical, pressure and temperature calibration disciplines to support operational requirements.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Ideally educated to HNC level or above.
- Previous experience in a technical, engineering, electrical, laboratory or testing environment.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Good IT literacy including Microsoft Office 365, Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint.
- Ability to follow procedures and work effectively within a self‑directed environment.
- Highly motivated with strong organisational and problem‑solving skills.
Desirable
- Previous experience in calibration or instrumentation activities.
- Experience working with ISO quality standards.
- Previous experience in a UKAS ISO 17025:2017 accredited laboratory environment.
- Understanding of electrical principles and engineering equipment.
- Experience with field‑based calibration, TUS and SAT activities.
- Knowledge of AMS2750 and CQI‑9.
