This is an exciting opportunity to use your product development and engineering design skills in a technical role supporting the ongoing development of window and door systems for the construction sector. As the Product Design Engineer you will be an integral part of the technical team, helping to develop new and existing products with the aim of extending, refining and improving an extensive product range. Working as the Product Design Engineer you will collaborate closely with sales teams, manufacturing colleagues, development teams, customers and suppliers across the UK and Europe. The Product Design Engineer will also support technical product application, product design, manufacturing considerations, quality standards and sustainable product development.
DUTIES
- Product Development: Develop new and existing products, supporting the extension, improvement and refinement of the company’s product range.
- Technical Design: Use CAD and 3D modelling skills to support product design, technical drawings and engineering development work.
- Manufacturing Liaison: Work closely with manufacturing teams on extrusion, injection moulding, fabrication and related production processes.
- Sales Team Support: Collaborate with sales colleagues to provide technical input and product application support.
- Customer and Supplier Liaison: Communicate directly with customers and suppliers in the UK and Europe to support product development activity.
- International Collaboration: Work with development teams overseas to support design, technical and product improvement projects.
- Quality and Environmental Standards: Apply knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards within relevant technical and product development activity.
- Innovation and Sustainability: Contribute ideas relating to SMART-home technology, digital technologies and sustainable product design.
- Project Delivery: Manage workload effectively, working to deadlines and supporting technical projects under pressure when required.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
- Proven success in product development and the technical application of products for the construction sector.
- A degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Design or a similar discipline would be ideal.
- Broad experience working with suppliers, customers and product design.
- Experience within the fenestration industry would be advantageous.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as extrusion, injection moulding and fabrication.
- Understanding of ISO 9001 quality standards and ISO 14001 environmental standards, and their application.
- Well-developed IT skills, including CAD and 3D modelling; SolidWorks experience would be preferred.
- Able to work to deadlines and remain effective under pressure.
- An interest in SMART-home, digital technologies and sustainable product design would be relevant.
- Willingness to travel at short notice.
- Language skills, especially German, would be useful but are not essential.
