A reliable Kitchen Assistant is required to support food preparation, meal service, food hygiene, kitchen operations and customer service within a welcoming Extra Care dining environment.

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Kitchen Assistant to join a friendly catering team supporting the delivery of high-quality meals and excellent customer service within an Extra Care setting. As the Kitchen Assistant you will help with food preparation, meal service, packed teas, kitchen cleanliness, stock rotation and front-of-house support, while maintaining high standards of food hygiene, health and safety and resident care. The Kitchen Assistant will work closely with the Chef Manager and wider team to help create a safe, welcoming and well-run dining experience for residents every day.

DUTIES

  • Food Preparation and Service: Support food preparation and meal service, including preparing packed teas and serving meals to residents.
  • Resident Food Profiles: Check resident food profiles, including allergies, preferences and IDDSI ratings, in line with company and Environmental Health standards.
  • Kitchen Cleanliness: Maintain cleanliness across the kitchen, storerooms, kitchen office and equipment areas, including washing uniforms on site.
  • Stock Support: Support the Chef Manager with deliveries, stock rotation and removing out-of-date items, highlighting when stock levels are running low.
  • Health and Safety Checks: Carry out health and safety and food hygiene checks in line with catering standards and statutory regulations.
  • Audit Preparation: Support the Chef Manager in preparing for inspections, audits and reporting requirements.
  • Front-of-House Service: Provide a high standard of front-of-house service within the restaurant environment.
  • Team Support: Act up as Chef when required, following completion of induction and training.
  • Training Compliance: Complete and keep up to date with mandatory training requirements.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen and catering environment.
  • Able to engage with elderly and vulnerable customers and their families in a respectful and caring way.
  • Good awareness of food hygiene, health and safety and safe working practices.
  • Confident using computers for online training and basic systems.
  • Reliable, organised and able to work as part of a team.
  • Cooking experience and knowledge of an Extra Care environment would be beneficial.
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent in Maths and English, Grades A*–C, is desirable.
  • A positive approach and willingness to demonstrate caring, collaborative and forward-thinking values.
