We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Senior Recovery Officer / Revenues Officer who has knowledge of debt recovery through the Magistrates Court and enforcement proceedings. Working as the Senior Recovery Officer / Revenues Officer you will join the Revenues team with your primary responsibilities being to support the Recovery Team to deliver a high-quality collection, management, and recovery of Council Tax and business rates.
As the Senior Recovery Officer / Revenues Officer you will maximise recovery of Council Tax and Business Rates by utilising the most appropriate method of recovery including earning attachments, charging orders, instructing enforcement agents or through other available means.
ABOUT YOU
- You will be a highly motivated individual who is a team player.
- Able to represent the organisation at Magistrates Court and be able to decide on appropriate enforcement proceedings for accounts that have fallen into arrears.
- A strong, clear communicator who is able to provide information in person, on the telephone or in writing.
- Can make effective decisions under time pressure.
- Has experience in dealing with a wide range of customers.
- Has strong knowledge of debt recovery processes.
DUTIES
- Negotiate payment arrangements with debtors by phone, written correspondence, or face to face, taking into consideration the size and nature of the debt and the debtor’s personal circumstances.
- Undertake Court proceedings in relation to Council Tax and Business Rates including deciding on appropriate enforcement proceedings and representing the organisation at Court when required.
- Liaise with other departments to share information in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and other relevant legislation, to assist in recovering other monies owed to the organisation, and to work in partnership with other internal departments to maximise the overall recovery rate.
- Deal with any issues or queries relating to recovery of Council Tax and Business Rates from debtors, legal representatives or any other persons acting for them by telephone, in person or in writing.
- Supervise Recovery Officers in the team, offering help and support when needed on matters that require more technical skills or knowledge.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the service to provide a holistic service.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge of debt recovery through the Magistrates Court.
- Knowledge of Council Tax and Business Rates Legislation.
- Excellent telephone technique, and ability to communicate with all taxpayers whatever their circumstances or difficulties.
- Negotiation skill and able to deal with upset or angry customers.
- Strong knowledge of debt recovery processes.
- Ability to explain customer accounts over the telephone, face to face, or in writing, requiring sound arithmetic skills coupled with tact and diplomacy.
- An excellent and knowledgeable team worker capable of multi-tasking and working to deadlines.
- Good IT skills, with ability to use MS Office products and able to construct written responses to customers that are clear and concise.
