We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a HGV Class 1 Driver to join the company’s operations team, supporting busy depot activity and customer deliveries. As an HGV Class 1 Driver you will work delivering steel products in line with agreed load plans, customer requirements, driver hours regulations and health and safety procedures. The HGV Class 1 Driver will also support safe load security, digital tachograph records, daily vehicle checks, route efficiency and occasional on-site trailer shunting.
DUTIES- Safe Transport: Deliver steel products safely and efficiently in line with scheduled load plans, customer timelines and site procedures.
- Load Security: Take responsibility for vehicle weight distribution, wide loads and flatbed loads, ensuring materials are legally compliant and chained down securely.
- Operational Support: On occasion, assist with loading outbound vehicles when required, ensuring materials are loaded safely and in delivery priority order.
- Trailer Shunting: Carry out on-site trailer shunting to support smooth depot operations.
- Route Efficiency: Work closely with the load planner to support efficient delivery routes, drops, mileage and fuel economy.
- Driver Compliance: Maintain accurate digital tachograph records in line with driver hours regulations.
- Vehicle Safety Checks: Complete routine daily vehicle safety and defect checks, reporting issues in line with company procedures.
- Health and Safety: Work in accordance with standard works, safe systems of work and health and safety procedures at all times.
- Valid UK HGV Class 1 / Category C+E driving licence.
- Current Driver CPC qualification card.
- Current Digital Tachograph card.
- Knowledge of strapping, chaining and securing wide loads on flatbed trailers.
- Ability to follow load plans, customer requirements and driver hours regulations accurately.
- Good awareness of vehicle safety checks, defect reporting and health and safety procedures.
- Previous experience working within a steel environment would be an advantage.
- Experience using overhead cranes, side loaders and forklift trucks to move material safely would be advantageous.
- Existing FLT, side loader or overhead crane certificates would be a major advantage, although training can be provided.
- 25 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays (33 days total).
- Overtime rates available & overnight subsistence allowance.
