We have a fantastic opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant / Teaching Assistant to support pupil development, SEN support and classroom activities in a primary education setting. This role involves behaviour management, learning support and working closely with teaching staff.

SALARY: £24,796 per annum FTE / Actual Annual Salary £16,857 per annum + Benefits

LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Temporary Contract (1 Academic year with potential to extend)

WORKING HOURS: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.45am to 3.15pm, term time only (38 weeks).

JOB OVERVIEW

As a Learning Support Assistant / Teaching Assistant you will work closely with teachers to deliver curriculum support, assist with classroom management and provide SEN support through small group and one-to-one learning. The role requires a calm, adaptable and proactive individual who can support behaviour management and help pupils remain engaged and motivated. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute to pupil progress, learning development and inclusive education within a supportive school community.

DUTIES

  • Support Learning Activities: Assist teachers in delivering lesson plans and classroom activities
  • Provide One-to-One Support: Work with individual pupils, including those with SEN needs
  • Facilitate Small Group Work: Support targeted learning groups to improve pupil progress
  • Promote Engagement: Keep pupils motivated, focused and on task during lessons
  • Manage Behaviour: Support behaviour management in line with school policies
  • Assist with Assessments: Help monitor and review pupil progress and learning outcomes
  • Supervise Pupils: Provide support during breaktimes and lunchtime activities
  • Support Emotional Needs: Build positive relationships and respond to pupil wellbeing needs
  • Maintain Safeguarding Standards: Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times
  • Collaborate with Staff: Work effectively as part of a team and liaise with teachers and external agencies

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous experience working with children in an education or childcare setting
  • Experience supporting pupils with social, emotional or communication needs
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to support classroom management and behaviour strategies
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to working in different classroom environments
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality requirements
  • A calm, patient and supportive approach to working with children
  • Ability to organise and prioritise tasks within a structured timetable
  • Willingness to learn and undertake relevant training
