JOB OVERVIEW
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant / Support Worker to join a professional community care service supporting individuals in their own homes. This role offers flexible working patterns and the opportunity to deliver high-quality, person-centred care.
As a Healthcare Assistant / Support Worker you will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, providing delegated clinical and personal care in line with individual care plans. The role requires compassion, resilience, and a commitment to maintaining dignity and safety. This position is well suited to someone confident working independently in the community, with a strong understanding of safeguarding, clinical standards, and trauma-informed practice.
DUTIES
- Delivering Delegated Care: Providing safe, effective care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
- Clinical Documentation: Accurately recording care delivered and maintaining patient records
- Personal Care Support: Assisting with hygiene, grooming, dressing, and oral care
- Nutrition and Hydration: Supporting feeding, hydration, and completing food and fluid charts
- Clinical Monitoring: Recording vital signs, including NEWS, and escalating concerns promptly
- Specialist Care Support: Assisting with ventilation via mask, cough assist, and catheter care
- Environmental Safety: Maintaining a clean, safe environment and managing personal belongings
- Patient Wellbeing: Supporting comfort, rest, sleep, and emotional needs
- Mental Health / Learning Disabilities - Specific Duties (if you have this skill set)
- Emotional And Behavioural Support: Supporting individuals experiencing anxiety, distress, or behavioural challenges
- Therapeutic Engagement: Maintaining professional boundaries and using appropriate communication strategies
- Positive Behaviour Support: Applying Positive Behavioural Support Principles and functional analysis
- Risk Awareness: Recognising and responding to risk in line with care plans and guidance
- One-To-One Observation: Providing enhanced observation (specialing) where required
- De-Escalation Techniques: Using trauma-informed approaches to reduce distress and promote safety
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
- ESSENTIAL
- Previous experience in a Healthcare Assistant, Support Worker, or Care Assistant role
- Experience with personal care and daily living support
- Proven experience of manual handling and basic clinical procedures
- Knowledge of Positive Behavioural Support Principles and trauma-informed care
- Ability to work independently and escalate concerns appropriately
- Willingness to travel within the community
- DESIRABLE
- Experience supporting individuals with mental health or learning disabilities
- Knowledge of ventilation support, cough assist, and catheter care
- Up-to-date PMVA and Breakaway training
- Experience providing one-to-one observation in care settings
This role requires an Enhanced DBS check.
