A fantastic opportunity for a practical and organised Art Technician / Design & Technology Technician to support creative learning within a modern secondary school environment, providing technical support, resource preparation, stock control and health and safety assistance across Art and Design Technology.
This role plays a key part in supporting high-quality teaching and learning across Art and Design Technology. As an Art Technician / Design & Technology Technician you will work closely with teaching staff to prepare materials, supervise specialist equipment, and ensure workshops and studios are safe, well-organised and fully resourced.
The Art Technician / Design & Technology Technician role suits someone hands-on, proactive and collaborative, with an interest in practical subjects and a commitment to maintaining excellent health and safety standards.
DUTIES
- Resource Preparation: Preparing materials and resources for Art and Design Technology lessons
- Equipment Supervision: Setting up, supervising and maintaining specialist equipment and tools
- Workshop Support: Assisting staff and pupils during practical sessions
- Stock Control: Maintaining organised stock systems, ordering supplies and checking deliveries
- Machinery Use: Safely operating workshop machinery to prepare materials where required
- Health and Safety: Monitoring equipment safety, COSHH controls and general workshop compliance
- Kiln Operation: Loading, unloading and maintaining kilns, including glaze preparation
- Exhibition Support: Assisting with exam preparation and mounting student exhibitions
- General Maintenance: Keeping work areas, storage spaces and specialist rooms clean and organised
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
- ESSENTIAL
- Previous experience supporting practical environments such as Art or Design Technology
- A hands-on, organised and proactive approach to work
- Understanding of health and safety procedures within workshop or studio settings
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- DESIRABLE
- Experience working with kiln equipment or ceramics
- Knowledge of stock control and ordering processes
- Experience within a school or educational setting
- Confidence using workshop machinery and tools
