Job Details and Environment: We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Trainee HGV Mechanic (LGV / Vehicle Technician) to join a growing organisation within the plant hire and engineering sector. Working alongside experienced engineers, the Trainee HGV Mechanic (LGV / Vehicle Technician) will support maintenance, servicing and repair activities across a fleet of heavy and light goods vehicles. This role offers hands-on training and career development within a professional workshop environment. As a Trainee HGV Mechanic (LGV / Vehicle Technician) you will gain practical experience in diagnostics, inspections and mechanical repair while contributing to safe, efficient operations and high-quality workmanship standards.
Duties:
- Assist with Maintenance and Repairs: Supporting servicing, maintenance and repair of HGVs and LGVs
- Carry out Inspections: Performing routine vehicle checks and basic diagnostics
- Support Senior Mechanics: Assisting with complex mechanical and engineering repairs
- Maintain Workshop Standards: Keeping the workshop clean, organised and safe
- Ensure Compliance: Following health and safety regulations and workshop procedures
- Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate documentation of work completed
- Tool and Equipment Use: Using workshop tools and equipment safely and effectively
- Continuous Learning: Developing mechanical knowledge and practical skills through training
Candidate Requirements:
Essential:
- Genuine interest in vehicle mechanics, HGVs and LGVs
- Willingness to learn and develop new technical skills
- Basic mechanical knowledge or understanding of vehicle systems
- Strong work ethic with a positive and proactive attitude
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable:
- Apprentice trained or working towards a recognised qualification
- City & Guilds Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Mechanics, Maintenance & Repair or equivalent
- Full UK driving licence
