We have a senior engineering opportunity supporting extrusion manufacturing processes, driving continuous improvement, optimising production efficiency, and ensuring quality and safety across operations.
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Senior Extrusion Process Engineer to play a pivotal role in developing, optimising, and maintaining extrusion processes within a manufacturing environment. As a Senior Extrusion Process Engineer you will combine hands-on technical expertise with analytical problem-solving to support production teams, improve throughput, and deliver consistent product quality. The Senior Extrusion Process Engineer will work cross-functionally to support quality, engineering, and operations, contributing to equipment improvements, trials, and continuous improvement initiatives.
DUTIES
- Process Development and Optimisation: Developing, refining, and documenting extrusion processes to improve quality, efficiency, and waste reduction
- Data Analysis and Problem Solving: Analysing process data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities
- Production Support: Providing day-to-day technical support to operators and shift teams
- Troubleshooting: Resolving process deviations, equipment issues, and quality concerns
- Process Control: Establishing and maintaining process parameters and standard operating procedures
- Quality and Compliance: Ensuring processes meet product specifications, regulatory requirements, and internal quality standards
- Equipment and Tooling: Supporting tooling specification, testing, and implementation including dies, screws, and auxiliary equipment
- Continuous Improvement: Leading Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen initiatives to reduce scrap and improve process stability
- Training and Coaching: Developing training materials and coaching operators on best practices
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
- ESSENTIAL: Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Polymer Science
- Strong understanding of extrusion principles including single-screw or twin-screw extrusion
- Understanding of rheology including material flow, viscosity, shear thinning, temperature, and speed
- Proven experience of process troubleshooting, data analysis, and root cause investigation
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and material data sheets
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally
- DESIRABLE: Experience in plastics, rubber, or metal extrusion environments
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies
- Experience with extrusion production equipment and material feed systems
- Hands-on experience with die design, screw design, or advanced rheology
