We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Machine Shop Quality Inspector to join a busy and forward‑thinking inspection department within a precision engineering environment. As a Machine Shop Quality Inspector, you will play a key role in quality control and quality assurance, inspecting engineered components using manual measurement tools, CNC CMM machines and FARO arm equipment to ensure products meet exacting standards. The role supports continuous improvement, contributes to inspection planning, and assists with modernisation and automation initiatives while working closely with production and quality teams. This role offers a stable day‑shift position within a modern manufacturing facility, with opportunities to support apprentices and influence inspection processes.
Job type: Full‑Time, Permanent
Working hours: Day Shift – 39 Hours per Week, 7am – 4pm Monday to Thursday, 7am – 12noon Friday
Location: Catcliffe, Rotherham, South Yorkshire
Salary: £32,914 - £34,313 per annum (£16.23 to £16.92 per hour) + profit share bonus scheme + benefits
Job Overview: This role is a stable day‑shift position within a modern manufacturing facility, with opportunities to support apprentices and influence inspection processes.
Duties:
- Component Inspection: Inspecting small to large engineered manufactured components
- Manual Measurement: Using micrometers, verniers, thread gauges and other measuring equipment
- CMM and FARO Arm Use: Operating CNC CMM machines and FARO arm inspection equipment
- First‑Off Inspection: Completing first‑off inspections directly at machines
- Inspection Reporting: Managing and completing computerised customer inspection reports
- Calibration Activities: Supporting calibration of inspection equipment
- CMM Programming Support: Implementing method and setting sheets for CMM programmes
- Quality Investigation: Overseeing and investigating internal rejects through to completion
- Customer Interaction: Managing customer witness inspection visits
- Department Organisation: Planning and organising inspection activities, equipment and patrol inspections
Candidate Requirements:
Essential:
- Proven experience using CMM and/or FARO arm inspection equipment
- Previous experience within a precision engineering or manufacturing quality environment
- Strong attention to detail with a methodical and organised approach
- Ability to work independently and as part of a busy team
- Confident communication and planning skills
Desirable:
- Experience supporting apprentices or trainee inspectors
- Exposure to offline CMM programming and use of 3D models
- Knowledge of 5S or continuous improvement practices
