An excellent opportunity for a qualified SHEQ Advisor with health and safety, site inspection, training and compliance experience to support operational teams across utility environments.

Salary: Negotiable depending on experience + benefits.

Location: Brentwood, Essex with regular travel to project sites across Essex, Hertfordshire and Suffolk; weekly attendance at the Hatfield department may also be required.

Job type: Full-time, Permanent.

PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will need to hold a Full Driving Licence (company vehicle and fuel card provided). This is an on-site role; commuting by public transport is not practical, and part-time or hybrid arrangements are not available.

Responsibilities

  • Site Inspections – complete weekly HSE site inspections of operatives and teams, helping to maintain safe working practices across operational activities.
  • Office and Yard Inspections – undertake monthly HSE inspections across office and yard environments, identifying areas for improvement and supporting compliance.
  • Deliver Induction Training – provide weekly HSE induction training for new starters, including office-based employees and operational staff.
  • Support Safety Training – deliver toolbox talks on a range of HSE subjects, managing responses and helping to keep teams informed and engaged.
  • Maintain Training Records – update and maintain the training matrix using the CRM system, ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
  • Coordinate Refresher Training – outsource relevant training and book refresher courses where required to support employee competence and compliance.
  • Attend SHEQ Meetings – participate in client and internal SHEQ meetings, providing clear updates and supporting agreed actions.
  • Provide H&S Advice – offer clear, reliable health and safety guidance across the business, supporting managers, supervisors and operational teams.
  • Support Incident Processes – assist with incident reporting and investigation processes, helping to identify causes and promote preventative action.
  • Deliver Additional Training – carry out Emergency First Aid at Work and EUSR National Water Hygiene Training once qualified and competent to do so.
  • Deputise – act as lead during the SHEQ Manager’s absence, helping to maintain continuity across SHEQ activities.

Candidate Requirements

  • Holds a formal health and safety qualification, such as NEBOSH, NVQ Level 3 or higher.
  • Extensive knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice in utility environments.
  • Confident speaking to groups and able to make safety training engaging.
  • Able to work well independently with strong attention to detail.
  • Quick to learn, proactive and willing to get stuck in without needing to be asked.
  • Committed to supporting continual improvement and positive safety standards.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a supportive, team-focused environment.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Able to commute to Brentwood, with occasional travel to other depots such as Hatfield.
