A rewarding opportunity to support women with multiple, complex needs in a residential setting, providing waking night cover, safeguarding, risk management and practical support to promote safety, wellbeing and positive outcomes.

SALARY: £13.38 per hour / £153.84 per shift

JOB TYPE: Casual / Bank Staff / Sessional – must have flexibility to work as and when required

LOCATION: Bexhill, East Sussex

WORKING HOURS: Working 12 hour shifts, 8pm to 8am, including half an hour unpaid break. Night cover shift is primarily sleep in. Waking night from 8pm to 12am, then sleep in but with the need to respond to any incidents as required.

Job Overview: We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Night Support Worker to join a residential service supporting women who have experienced domestic abuse alongside multiple, complex needs. As a Night Support Worker, you will provide waking night cover, ensure the safety and security of residents and the building, and respond calmly and professionally to incidents, emergencies or support needs throughout the night. The Night Support Worker role involves assessment, induction, monitoring wellbeing and maintaining accurate records, while building positive, professional relationships that support recovery, stability and safe move-on into the community.

Duties:

  • Providing Waking Night Cover: Maintaining an active presence during night hours to ensure resident and building safety.
  • Resident Support and Engagement: Offering practical and emotional support, responding to needs and promoting pro-social behaviour.
  • Risk Assessment and Monitoring: Observing wellbeing, identifying risks and reporting concerns in line with procedures.
  • Induction and Triage: Supporting the assessment and induction of new residents during night shifts.
  • Building Safety Checks: Carrying out regular building, grounds and CCTV inspections and recording any issues.
  • Incident and Emergency Response: Responding appropriately to incidents, self-harm risks or medical emergencies, including first aid.
  • Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintaining accurate records, logs and incident reports in line with GDPR and organisational policies.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Acting as Fire Warden and following fire, safeguarding and health and safety procedures.
  • Team Communication: Participating in shift handovers and sharing relevant information with colleagues.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Must be female (Genuine Occupational Requirement – in accordance with paragraph 1 of Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010).
  • Previous experience supporting individuals with complex needs such as domestic abuse, mental health, substance misuse or homelessness.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to work independently during night shifts and manage challenging situations calmly.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with accurate record keeping.
  • Basic IT skills, including use of Word, Outlook and data entry systems.
  • Willingness to work evenings, nights and weekends on a shift pattern.
