AWC Staff Services are looking for a Planning Manager for work with their client on their Substations department within the South West/South Wales area. This role is client facing, so a willingness to travel is a must. You will be part of their Transmission & Renewables team, who design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.

What will you be doing?

  • You’ll be managing the production of robust and detailed programmes for all works associated with the design, procurement and construction phases of our substation projects, ensuring the team liaise with the Project/Construction Manager and Site Engineers to ensure that the programme keeps abreast of any changes.
  • You’ll be managing and coordinating the production of detailed trackers that can substantiate progress measurements on a regular basis and retain these for analysis on future bids.
  • Mentor and support less experienced members of the planning team on the technical aspects of programming.

We’re looking for someone who excels at managing resources and subcontractors and who enjoys being involved in every stage of the project, working closely with the site delivery team and attending client meetings, from initial planning to final handover. In this role, you will also collaborate with our bid team, offering your planning expertise to make our bids competitive and accurate. Your ability to collect benchmarking data for value assessments and manage risk, issue, and opportunity registers will be highly valued.

What you’ll bring:

  • Proven experience in planning major projects within a high voltage environment.
  • Knowledge and experience with national grid substations.
  • Experience managing a team.
  • Experience working with P6 primavera.
  • Experience with NEC contracts.
  • A full UK Driving licence.
  • Able to collaborate, influence and deal with people at all levels including Executive Directors.
  • Proven track-record of delivering change and implementing strategic initiatives.
